Udacity Looks For a New CEO, as Vishal Makhijani steps down

Last week, Udacity co-founder Sebastian Thrun announced in a blog post that Vishal Makhijani, Udacity’s CEO is stepping down. According to Thrun, Vishal or Vish as he is known by, “has decided to move on to new challenges.”

Currently, Udacity doesn’t have a new CEO lined up. Thrun and the Board of Directors led by Peter Levine from Andreessen Horowitz (one of Udacity’s investors) have begun the search process for the new CEO.

Vish joined Udacity in 2013 as its COO and President. In April 2016, Vish took over and Thrun became the CEO. Udacity had only 50 employees back when Vish joined, and now it has around 500 employees around the world. Udacity’s revenue in 2017 was $70M, up from $29M in 2016.
