Udacity Starts Airing TV Commercial, Launches a Brand New Homepage

In September we noted that Coursera started promoting it courses via TV Ad Spots on major networks — including CNN — across the US. Now, Udacity joins the ranks of MOOC providers advertising online courses on TV.

Udacity’s 30 second TV spot: “The Jobs of Tomorrow Start Here.”

Udacity’s TV commercial focuses on their recently announced Nanodegrees, which enable you to become a Self-Driving Car, AR, or VR engineer. Unlike Coursera’s TV commercials, which focused on affordable online courses and building in-demand career skills, Udacity is focusing on the “jobs of tomorrow.”

These newly-launched Nanodegrees seem to be a big hit amongst learners. Udacity’s Self-Driving Car Nanodegree received over 11,000 applications for 250 places, which were increased to 1,000 places due to the huge demand. The recently announced AI Nanodegree has already received close to 5,000 applications for 500 places.

The TV spot will be aired during primetime hours on major networks in San Francisco, Seattle, and Austin. The spot, airing in the evening now through 27 November, is appearing on stations like Fox, TBS, and The Food Network during popular shows like Big Bang Theory, American Horror Story, Supergirl, South Park, The Tonight Show w/Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and The Late Show w/Stephen Colbert.

The spot, produced by LA-based ad firm Davis Elen, marks the biggest move of Udacity’s recent marketing campaign, which includes placing billboards on Highway 101 and wrapping the San Francisco Caltrain in Udacity branding.

Udacity also launched a newly redesigned homepage, which features the TV ad prominently.
